We'd like to do some window treatments for our sliding glass door and bay window (I'd love to sew a cushion for the window seat). Do I coordinate with the green couches in the living room? The fireplace in the living room is blue. There is blue in the flooring and backsplash. What color curtains would you suggest then? The walls are brown so I think any additional brown would be too drab. Also, the front window curtains seem unfinished. Any ideas?
The walls are lacking. I find it difficult to add one piece at a time because I'm afraid it will make the room off center. I guess it'd be better than the blank canvas it currently is. lol

I found it difficult to decorate our last house because of the layout, which I'm sure you remember is a lot like yours. The vaulted ceilings and openness of it all makes it very difficult for changing wall color.
As far as window treatments for your sliding glass door, I love the curtains that I put up here in the new house. I just hung the rod over the door and bought two panels in a color I wanted to coordinate with the kitchen. Mind are plain, but you could always try a print, too.

I think adding some nice earthy red tones would be nice in there...give a nice pop of color and would sit nicely next to the brown wall, and work well with the green couches. Are you planning on keeping the blue tile on the fireplace? I know there is something out there that you can paint or stain tiles like that...but I don't know much about it (only seen them do it on hgtv....) So you don't have to think you are stuck with the blue color...unless you like it...then I would plan to decorate in the future around colors that work in that scheme.
Also, I think it's best to decorate as you "feel it"...and not all at once. Do you know what you want your wall decor to look like in the end? Do you want clusters of frames or one big piece of art? Plan it in your head then start collecting the stuff for it and put it up as it seems right. You really don't have a lot of walls that feel naked, so I don't think you need to be too stressed about them. :)
Decorating sporadically on a budget can be hard, especially in a big open room. Our kitchen/living room area is a big open area like yours (vaulted ceilings included) and I had a really hard time decorating it. It was all off-white and we have green couches. I finally painted the wall with the sliding glass door RED. I LOVE it. It the kitchen and dining feel like a separate room from the living room. So if you don't want to paint, I think Heidi is right. Do some earthy red curtains--they will match the color scheme you have going already. If you aren't into red, I'd do another bold color (maybe even blue) or a pattern.
